Planning your estimate

What Affects Lawn Care Costs in Raleigh, NC?

Compare lawn care estimates by included work, property access and visit frequency. See what to ask and request a free YardU estimate.

Lawn care estimates are easier to compare when they describe the same work. The amount of grass, access to the yard, requested tasks, starting condition and visit frequency can all affect the scope. Before choosing a company, check what is included and how changes will be agreed.

YardU provides estimates for individual properties. This guide does not quote a standard YardU rate or a Raleigh market average.

Start with what each visit includes

Does the estimate cover mowing alone, or does it include the finishing work too? YardU’s lawn care package includes mowing, edging, weed trimming and blowing off surfaces.

Ask each provider to identify the tasks included in a regular visit. Confirm whether leaf removal, bed work, hauling, aeration or other seasonal services are included or require a separate estimate. A service appearing on a company’s website does not mean it is included in every lawn care visit.

Describe the property, not just its size

Two properties of similar size can involve different work. Share details that help a provider understand yours:

  • The approximate lawn area and the condition of the grass.
  • Slopes, steps, narrow gates and other access constraints.
  • Beds, trees, fences and obstacles that need attention around them.
  • Debris, leaves or overgrown areas that may need separate cleanup.
  • Any areas you want excluded from the work.

Photos can help explain the property. Ask whether a visit is needed before the provider confirms the estimate. Do not assume that an online estimate includes an on-site inspection.

Compare the schedule and the total scope

An estimate per visit and an estimate for a month or season are not directly comparable. Ask how many visits are included, what the schedule covers and how weather delays or changes in scope are handled.

Mowing needs depend on grass growth and growing conditions. NC State Extension advises matching mowing frequency to growth and avoiding removal of more than one-third of the leaf surface in a normal mowing. A fixed calendar alone does not determine the right interval for every property. NC State Extension lawn guidance

Confirm the proposed schedule directly with YardU rather than assuming that a weekly, biweekly or year-round plan is available for your property.

A checklist for comparing estimates

Before accepting an estimate, ask:

  1. Which tasks and areas are included?
  2. Which services or materials would be extra?
  3. Is the amount per visit, per month or for a defined project?
  4. How will weather delays and schedule changes be communicated?
  5. How are additional work and changes approved?
  6. What payment, cancellation and written project terms apply?

Keep the answers alongside the estimate. They give you a clearer comparison than the price alone.
