Fall timing is different for different lawns

NC State Extension’s Carolina Lawns guide recommends early fall for seeding cool-season grasses. Warm-season grasses follow a different growing cycle and are generally established in late spring or early summer. Fall overseeding is not a universal recommendation for every lawn.

In late fall and winter, ask YardU to review timing before booking seeding work. Grass type, weather and establishment needs determine whether to proceed or plan for a later season. Ask about establishment and watering needs when considering late-season work.

Prepare an aeration and overseeding estimate

  • Property location, lawn size and photos of thin or bare areas.
  • Known grass type, recent lawn work and any treatment history.
  • Gates, irrigation or utilities and access limitations.
  • Watering availability and who will handle aftercare.
  • Preferred timing for the team to review.

Confirm preparation, seed and aftercare

Agree on the method, included areas, suitable seed where applicable, preparation, price and timing. Ask how watering and later mowing should be coordinated. For a different approach to establishing a lawn, you can discuss sod.

Keep leaf cleanup separate from lawn renovation

Discuss heavy leaf buildup with YardU and review leaf removal. Cleanup and lawn renovation have different scopes; plan their timing together without assuming either is included in the other.
